5th Mountain: A Test of Will

You’ve read about my CrossFit adventures in Canada, and about my beloved new CrossFit box in Texas. It’s about time I showcase the place where my CrossFit career all started.

About a year and a half ago, my CrossFit journey started at CrossFit 1525 in Houston. I’d read about CrossFit, seen the games replays on ESPN, and was ready to dive in. I was excited to see what I was made of and ready to commit myself to getting stronger, faster, etc.

Pre-WOD

My first month at 1525 was awesome. I woke up everyday sore as hell and couldn’t wait to get off work to get my ass beat again. My lifts were weak, my stamina was piss poor, but I loved it! I’ve come a long way since then. My lifts are slightly less weak, my stamina is marginal, and I still love it!

To celebrate the new year, we did the 5th Mountain

5th Mountain
100 burpees, run 1 mile
100 squats, run 1 mile
100 situps, run 1 mile
100 pushups, run 1 mile
100 pullups, run 1 mile
All with a 20# weight vest!

Post-WOD

Post-WOD

It took me one hour and 36 minutes to finish. Not a blazing time by any means, but I finished. The rest of the day (and the next two days after that) were spent on the couch recovering from getting hit by that Mack truck.

I can check this WOD off my list. Never again…

But seriously, I’ll probably do it again…

I’m pretty sure that was my time with no vest. When I got to the push-ups I started to cry, not by choice, my body just took over and I think tears must have been the only thing I had left to give. I am SO glad I did it, it was a huge accomplishment.
